Our daughter was born with a severe bilateral cleft lip and palate. At 9 months of age she has already had 5 operations and is doing great. Se is such a trooper! We are now done with the surgeries until she is 8 years of age and we want to plan a very special 1st birthday celebration in October. We are renting a hall and are looking for really good suggestions on planning an extra special birthday for her!

  1. It's very sweet that you want her first birthday to be special but in all honestly..she won't even know what's going on, won't know the celebration is for her and wont remember it.  Renting a hall doesn't make a celebration special..having close family and good friends near by does.  I would do it at home.  At 1 years old, you would hate to leave an expensive party with her if she gets overwhelmed and starts screaming.

  2. Your daughter has certainly been through alot!  (My grandson, 10, has spina bifida, and has had HIS share of operations too!) ..but I also have 3 other grandkids under the age of 4-1/2, so we've had alot of lst birthdays lately! ...  At that age, they just want to play (usually with the boxes that the gifts come in), so my daughter just has a party with family & close friends for the 1st birthday.  She has a BBQ usually....  They have small, indoor "bounce house"s that you can get, which are actually just like a wading pool with the balls, but she'd love it at that age!  And any other toddlers could also play with her in it.  I've seen them at Walmart, and they're less than $50....  I'd just have a buffet or BBQ, without any planned activities - but get her own special cake for digging into... and take photos!

  3. Very glad she is doing well! Blessings to the family!

The cakes, presents, toys, family, etc would be excellent but I think the best thing is to make sure you film and photograph during the party. Most children cannot remember too much before they are 3 years of age but it would be a very sweet memory to capture and show your daughter her 1st birthday when she is older!

    Best wishes

  4. Wow! Thats alot for a baby to have to go thru in such a short time. I'm glad to hear that everthing is going well now. Your right, she is a real trooper and deservs a great b-day party. I'm not to sure on what to do for a 1 year old, but I do have a real nice suggestion for a decoration. My neighbor does this for her kids and I thought it was a great idea. Now, even though she's only turning a year old, you can still take a bunch of your favorite photos of your baby and stick them randomly on the wall at the hall your renting and put a sign above it saying something like " The many faces of ( your baby's name)" So people ca see how big she's gotten over the year. Hope everything turns out great

  5. Simply ask your daughter about her favourite characters, interests... and simply visit:

as there are hundereds of themes for boys and girls.

Select her favourite theme, buy some themed tableware, decorations, costumes and favours and.... Happy Birthday in advance

  6. So sorry to hear about your daughter, and glad to hear that she is doing well.

Some of the themes for a kid's birthday party are; kid's birthday pizzeria party, kid's princess birthday party, kid's pirate party, kid's jungle party, etc.
