  1. Start with the board of the trust -- they need to be giving money. You can't ask potential donors to give money unless the board is giving as well.

    You need to have a verifiable record of what your trust has done to date to meet whatever its mission is -- what good have you done, and how can you prove that? You need to have a financial report for your most recent fiscal year that shows how you have spent money and what money you have received. You need to have a budget for the current fiscal year that shows how you intend to spend money. You need to have written or video testimonials from people who say your charitable trust is worthwhile, and what it's done to help.

    You use all of this information when you meet with local government officials, local branches of international corporations, local businesses and local branches of international NGOs to show that your charity is worth funding.
