  1. Food was not always spicy in India or oily.  It's a new trend.  Food that you think is bland likely is not; your taste buds are just accustomed to too much salt, spice, and oil to be able to taste unadulterated flavours.

  2. You have probably picked up on the fact that many cuisines have spicy food, in addition to Indian.

How about Middle Eastern food like pita (bread) with humus (chickpea and garlic spread) and felafel (fried and spiced chickpeas)? Or grape leaves stuffed with rice, lemon, thyme and capers.

How about Italian food like pasta with fresh tomatoes and onions and peppers?  A vegetarian lasagna with tofu or beans, perhaps spinach?

Have you considered a submarine sandwich, also known as a poor boy?  You could put grilled tomatoes, eggplant, peppers on great bread.  Lots of vegetables, even romaine lettuce, can be grilled and thrown onto a sandwich for wonderful flavor.

How about Mexican food, such as flour or corn tortillas with tomato and pepper salsa and avocado?  Or just grilled peppers and onions in a tortilla?  It is great!

    Enjoy!

  3. Just because some people do not eat salty and spicy food does not mean it's bland.  Bland means no flavor and I eat food with a lot of flavor.  I suggest using google to find recipes and than you can go ahead and add your salt to them.

  4. Yeah, you're SOooo superior to the rest of the world because you put curry on everything.

  5. You are sadly mistaken if you think Indian is the only spicy cuisine in the world!

You should pick up a cookbook called Vegan Fire & Spice by Robin Robertson.  It's a world tour of spicy cuisine from Asia, Africa, the Mediterranean, Central and South America, the Carribean and even the US.  There's lots of delicious foods from all cultures if you're willing to look outside what you're used to.  There are even spicy sauces for pastas and sandwiches.

A dish for you to try:

    Penne Arrabbiata

    2 Tbsp olive oil

    3 garlic cloves, minced

2 dried peperoncino chiles, crumbled or 1 tsp red pepper flakes

    1 28oz can crushed tomatoes

    1/2 tsp dried basil

    1/2 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp sugar (or natural sweetener of your choice)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

    1 lb penne pasta

    2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.  Add the garlic and chiles and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.  Add tomatoes, basil, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper, to taste.  simmer for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

Cook the penne per package directions until al dente.  Drain and transfer to a large serving bowl and toss with the sauce until coated.  Top with fresh parsley.

Of course, you can adjust the spiciness by adding more or less of the chiles, or using chiles and red pepper flakes instead of one or the other.

  6. I dint think india is the only country that eats spicy food. What about thai, Vietnamese and all the rest.

But on the food front, you can always make beautiful pastas by throwing some zucchini, mushrooms, tomato's, capsicum eggplant etc etc in a pan with some garlic chili and herbs and bake a quick and easy pasta

  7. That is one of the most untrue statements I have ever read.

Adding spice and salt to the point you can't taste your food doesn't mean other people eat bland food.

Grill some eggplant and put it between some flat bread.

  8. Bland?

Some African cuisine would blister the roof of your mouth.

  9. National Dish of England? Vindaloo.

Remember, we even used it for our football song for the World Cup...
