It started off that we were going to have the whole thing paid for by the insurance co. Then it was 3 sides of the house, then 2 sides. The estimates for the whole house are more than expected, and we will have to pay about 5,000 out of pocket. We would like to wait, since we dont really have the money to put into it since we just spent 40,000 on our kitchen. I think the insurance company told my wife we have 6 months to make the repair.

  1. If all four sides are damaged, then they should be paying for all four sides.  If only two sides are damaged, they won't pay to reside so that everything fully matches.

Sure, you can not do the work and keep the check.  But if it's not done in six months, expect them to cancel your policy.  And you won't find someone else to write you, while you have unrepaired damage.

  2. I would think that if you didn't within the 6 months they could consider it insurance fraud.

On your policy I am sure it states how much of a percentage that the insurance company will cover. If that doesn't match with the quote, call them and work something else out.

You can't just take it though...
