“We should have scored more goals”, Benfica's Bruno Cesar looks back on the Otelul Galati game
The Eagles played their second UEFA Champions League match at National Arena, where they took on Otelul Galati and eventually emerged as 1-0 winners. Benfica’s goal scorer on the night, Bruno Cesar, looked back on the game and said that his side should definitely
have netted more than one goal against the Romanian outfit.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jorge-c19120 Jesus’ men were the bookies favourites to emerge with three points and although that was the final result, the score line was not a fair reflection of the dominance they had on the game until late on.
The visitors orchestrated proceedings and kept possession of the ball during the opening 45 minutes and their efforts were duly rewarded, when Bruno Cesar scored the first goal of the game with a neatly taken finish.
Cesar latched onto a through ball from the in-form Nicolas Gaitan and finished off the move with a delicately taken strike over the charging goalkeeper.
While the Romanian giants continued to press on for an equalizer in the second half, they were unable to find the back of the net despite their best attempts. In the closing stages, the Eagles were threatened by a late Galati surge but they held on for the
win.
Although the result sees them gain three points and add more pressure to the race to finish as group winners, Bruno Cesar believes that his team could have done better and scored a couple more on the night.
Speaking to reporters, the Brazilian said that if they found the back of the net more than once at the National Arena, they would have not worried about the late attempt by the Ironworkers to get back into the game.
"We should have been more calm in front of goal and ended the game with second and third goals. With that we could have avoided the choke in the end.”
However, Cesar also reiterated that gaining three points away from home was not an easy feat and he was really pleased with the win.
"It is always difficult to win away from home, regardless of opponent. I appreciate the goal and for helping the team to score three points. It's always good to win out and score points.” He concluded.
Lastly, he said that last night’s victory was an important one and will help the team improve in the upcoming fixtures.
“The team is more confident and this result is important," the 22-year-old was quoted as saying.
