We should have scored more goals against Otelul Galati, says Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan – Report
Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan has claimed that although his side deserved to win their UEFA Champions League tie against Otelul Galati, they should have further improved upon their 1-0 score line.
The Reds took on Otelul Galati at the National Arena in their second UEFA Champions League match and given that the away side were the favourites, many expected a hefty score line.
Although Benfica did win the match, the final score did not truly summarize the stranglehold they had over the rivals for the best part of ninety minutes.
Jorge Jesus’ men opened the scoring before the break through Bruno Cesar, who calmly converted a great pass by Nicolas Gaitan. While they continued to orchestrate proceedings, the visitors were not able to extend their score line in the remaining time.
Pushing to secure a two-goal cushion, Benfica pressed hard but the Otelul Galati defence stood well. Later on in the closing stages of the tie, the Ironworkers themselves went in search for the equalizer but were thwarted by the likes of Luisao and Ezequiel
Garay.
The result has placed the Eagles on top of the group standings level with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079, where they are mounting pressure on Manchester United to be the winners.
Although happy that all three points were taken from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990, Gaitan has claimed that the club could have done more damage to the home side.
"It was important to add the three points and the team did everything in their power to achieve that. We should have scored more goals, but is not always possible in football and what matters is that we won the three points.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Boca-Juniors-c38658 man also lavished praise on teammate Bruno Cesar, saying that the Brazilian took his goal very well.
“It all had everything to do with the movement of Bruno Cesar. He was very good and made it possible score,” the 23-year-old was quoted as saying.
With the next round of UEFA Champions League fixtures taking place next month, Benfica can turn their attention to the Portuguese Primeira Liga, where they currently lie 2nd behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186.
