We should have transformed our talent into performance against England, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 – Cricket News Update
Darren Sammy, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 skipper, feels that his team had the potential to dismantle England in the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series and is extremely disappointed that his boys failed to translate their talent to performance.
Since the return of some of the star-players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754, most of the experts were rating the Caribbean side as favourites to win the limited-overs series.
However, the three-match series turned out to be an anti-climax for the visitors as they lost the initial two ODIs at Southampton and the Oval. Their star-studded batting line-up succumbed under pressure against the English bowling attack, which is considered
to be one of the best in the world.
The last match at Leeds was whitewashed because of rain and as a result, England sealed the series by a margin of 2-0.
Just like the fans, Sammy admitted that the team was also delighted to have the match-winners back in their ranks and expressed that he was confident of a good show. Apart from praising the home team’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Killeen-c79132 instinct, the all-rounder criticised his men
for not living up to their reputation and letting their supporters down.
"All of us in the team were very happy about the prospects for the one-day series. But it's a perfect case -- cricket, you don't play it on paper. You can have the best-looking team but you've got to go out and perform and we've not done that. England went
about doing their jobs very professionally," Sammy said.
The only T20 International of the series is going to be played tomorrow at Nottingham and the visiting team’s skipper wants to end the tour on winning note.
Straightaway after the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at home for a series of two T20s, five ODIs and a couple of Tests. Sammy wants his team to be in a positive frame of mind before taking on the Black Caps.
The West Indies captain believes, "It would be a good way to end on a high note, winning the T20 and taking that into the one-day series against New Zealand."
