Swann commended the skipper, citing that Dhoni played a potent role in leading India to the top of International cricket, bringing home the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011.
“He has played a big role to help India reach the top. He was very much their form batsman towards the end of the Test series. To blame him for the defeats is really harsh. We still look at him as a formidable opponent and a fine captain,” said Swann.
Prior to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s visit, Graeme had revealed that his side would focus more on securing Dhoni’s stumps in order to dominate the Men in Blue.
However, with the kick off to the tour, things seemed a little different as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 went on to deliver an evidently exceptional performance. The whole English squad contributed, especially the bowlers, who literally shattered the Asian batting giants.
Consecutive defeats were on the cards for the unfortunate visitors, as the Poms stripped them from the their World No.1 Test team status.
Indian fans would have hoped for a comeback in the limited-overs leg of the tour; however, after losing the only T20 International, the Indians lost the 2nd One Day International as well, trailing in the 5-match ODI series 0-1.
As for skipper Dhoni, he has been leading a mutilated squad, marred by recurrent injuries to its main players, which saw almost nine of the playing XI on return flights home.
However, ace English spinner, Swann still considers Dhoni to be a potent member of the Indian side despite him not delivering his best recently.
Appreciating the newcomers to the Indian side, Swann lauded their talent and went on to state that the English have felt the new Indian side to be more competitive with their addition.
The Men in Blue are due to go against the Poms today, September 9, 2011, in the 3rd ODI of the NatWest series.
