He is and was the most successful captain India has ever produced.Politicians and BCCI made a mockery of the general public by dancing to the tune of Greg Chappel and his coterie.Otherwise we wouldn't have got out of the world cup in the first round.Still he is around...better be late than never....it is time to negate the injustice we have done to this cricketing genius...Prince of Kolkatta.

  1. First of all you people fail to differentiate between politics and cricket. Why you are unnecessarily using the word "democracy" in cricket. I am not able to understand. Still I am saying Ganguly and dravid should prove to the selectors both are physically, mentally fit to play in odi and they are in good form of batting. Otherwise, they should not select in the Indian team. You people unnecessarily giving undue advantage to Ganguly and dravid.

  2. I don't think greg chappel has something to do with it. Since Dhoni has become captain he has thrown Rahul and Saurav both out what is the reason no one knows. Mind you I read somewhere on Google that Saurav has won Award for the best Asian ODI performer recently

  3. No!Hoping Ganguly to comeback in Indian team soon!!!

  4. For most sports selections are based on what the player is expected to contribute and not on what they have done in the past.

Australia does this very well and have 3 world cups to prove it.

If the selectors think Saurav, Dravid or Sachin will not contribute  to the next match, then they are right in not selectiing them.  I am not sure YA cricket answerers can make any better decision than the selectors.

For the record Saurav and others have not brought India a world cup yet, when they indeed were selected to play

  5. Personally, I can't accept the unfair expulsion of Sourav Ganguly from the ODI team, but the truth is, most Indians can. Infact, the general belief is that the Indian team is better off without Ganguly. Yes, Ganguly is the most successful skipper that India has ever had, he is one of the most elegant left handers, and he is one of the few Indian batsmen to have crossed the 10,000 run mark in ODIs. Yet, all these reasons would never appeal to BCCI-the board run by politicians and jokers. Regional bias, and personal favouritism has blinded the selectors who are now mere puppets in the hand of the captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni feels threatened in the presence of the Bengal Tiger, and doesn't want him in the team, and his wish is final and our selectors never hesitated to humiliate this "cricketing genius" by sacking him from the ODI squad, even when statistics show that he was in a convincingly good form.

But this was not the 1st time that such a harsh treatment was meted out to Dada. He has been backstabbed too many times. He had to suffer the worst insult during the Chapel era. Now, again, Dhoni and the selectors neglected him. Unfortunately, my countrymen forgot Dada's contributions so easily, and this time, the whole of India is dancing to the tune of Dhoni, just because he is getting short term successes. In other countries, cricketers even older than Ganguly (eg  Jaysurya) are still held in esteem, but not in India. So, I don't see much chance of  negating the wrongs done on him. The prince of Kolkata has been exiled from the team forever.

  6. Greg Chappell deserves a medal. He was not backward in letting Ganguly know that it was high time he pulled his socks up if he wishes to remain in the team let alone being the captain. Coaches before him didn't have the spunk to say the same thing to Ganguly. Ganguly's concern was the endorsements he would have to forfeit if he wasn't the captain. Now ironically it is the very corporates who lifted him to dizzy heights are baying for his blood. He has to go was the clarion call, and he went. None of this has anything to do with being the largest and worst functional democracy in the world. Has India ever had a free and fair election? So a little less about our democracy.

Always easy to find a scapegoat and Ganguly's undoing is totally of his own making. He's had his turn, done well and now time for the youngsters to be given their fair share of being selected. Move on guys and get with it.

Booting him before he had the chance to gracefully retire from ODI was in bad form.

  7. Often, I think the BCCI's way of working with players is pathetic. Do they have the guts to give the same treatment to Sachin? They don't. I agree, Sachin's recent ODI form is better. But Sourav has been playing well in ODIs too. And Sachin is not young either.

    Basically, BCCI's behavior is irrational.

  8. see,Mr Ganguly is not more than cricket. He is now 35+.As referring to his last few matches he is not able to perform as well as he did when he was 25.& there are no of players who are truly legends but have to retied. If people like you make a issue on this topic then other people from South make a issue for Dravid, prople from UP argue for Kaif, people from mumbai may argue for Kambali !!!!.This is Cricket not a BAP-DADA's jagir that these players should be in INDIAN TEAM.

  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Chappell been out of India for the better part of a year? So what has what is going on there now, to do with him? And it isn't the coach or politicians who have the final  say, but the selectors. So get your facts right instead of blaming the former coach, who, surprise, surprise, is an Aussie. Otherwise we wouldn't be hearing about it, would we. But getting away from that, just how old is Ganguly? Maybe he is at an age when it's time to go. I know Hayden must soon retire, but there's not an Aussie who will begrudge him that day if he wants it. And we won't be blaming our politicians or coach!

Edit,I just checked him on wikipedia & hes 36! Just how long did you plan for him to play! lol, It's time he retired!

  10. C'mon, no one can play forever! We all know Dada is a GREAT player but he is now 36 and he isn't at his best, now a days! But, yes BCCI shouldn't kick Dada out of the ODI team, after all he is one of the most successful captain of India. I think Dada himself should seek retirement and give way to juniors....it will be better than being kicked out of the ODI team! But the final say is "Dada is a great player and he truly deserves the awards of best Asian cricketer & batsman but every great cricketer has to seek retirement one day."

  11. We cant accept his exclusion. Its sure the age will not permit all the days. But I have question about the way of exclusion made by the jokkers of India.
