A year and a half ago we cut down a bunch of over grown bushes which had poison ivy growing in them, we ground them all up and used the chips to put over the old stumps to kill them...we also sprayed some kind of chemical. This summer a lot of the weeds are coming back and we hope next summer/spring we can grind all the stumps and then grown grass but we were told to use rock salt to further kill the weeds/stumps...So I'm asking what the best thing to do is since grass won't grow where there has been salt (I want to do this as natural as possible)

  1. Call your local garden center and ask about the use of copper sulfate.

If you do go the rock salt direction, cut slits in the top of the stumps, water them well, dump in the salt, and lightly water it so the salt sinks in.

  2. It may not be as natural as you want, but mulch and rock would look nice.  It would be a nice barrier for the weeds.
