We want an english wedding, but we live in the United States.?

Question

I am an American Citizen. My fiance is a UK citizen WITH A GREEN CARD. We live in New York together and have for the last three years. We would like to have our wedding in England to be close to family, but we would keep living in the United States. Since he is an English citizen but lives in the US, do we need to be in the UK for a period of time before the wedding to "make it legal". This is not an immigration issue. We just want a beautiful wedding in england!!!

If you know whereabouts you would like to get married, contact the local registrar (found on the County Council website) & have a chat with them about it - they'll be able to tell you what's involved.  Chances are you won't be able to get married in a Church as you haven't been members of the Parish, although this is sometimes overlooked if your fiancés family have close ties to the area.

I think you need to call the embassy and ask to get full details.

But if it gets very complicated, why not just host the reception there and have the official documentations signed where you live?

no you don't need to be in england over a certain time to make it legal if you can organise it from the USA which you will be able to do over the internet and phone and then just come to the uk get wed then return to the USA you will get a marriage certificate in the uk but I'm not sure if you will have to register your marriage when you arrive back in the USA
