“We want the world to know about” Andy’s 2012 Tour de France victory, Christian Prudhomme
Alberto Contador’s disqualification from professional cycling changed many things for himself, his team and a number of cyclists in the peloton.
It was recently proved by the jury that the Spaniard used clenbuterol to enhance his performance during the Tour de France 2010.
The cyclist was banned from professional cycling for a period of two years in February 2012.
He has also been stripped-off from all the previous victories since the 2010 version of the French Grand Tour.
Andy Schleck finished second during the Tour de France 2010 and Alberto’s disqualification ruled Andy as the overall winner of the race.
It has now been decided that the cyclist will be given full honour for the victory as announced by the Race Director Christian Prudhomme.
Belgian newspaper Le Soir quoted him as saying, "We want the world to know about this, even though we know that Andy Schleck had much rather won on his bike".
Andy shared his thoughts during the team’s press release, "There is no reason to be happy now. First of all I feel sad for Alberto. I always believed in his innocence".
“This is just a very sad day for cycling. The only positive news is that there is a verdict after 566 days of uncertainty. We can finally move on”.
Andy is undoubtedly amongst the best stage race riders in the peloton and he came close to the top overall position on three occasions.
He finished second during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 versions of the race and has now been awarded the first overall spot.
The 26-year-old is targeting the Tour de France as the biggest goal of his 2012 season. He was denied the victory by Cadel Evans during the most recent version of the race.
Schleck is working hard to bridge the gap between his and Evans’ performance during the Tour de France 2012.
However, the cyclist is now getting ready to receive the honours for his earned 2010 victory of the race.
The final date or the venue of the ceremony has not yet been announced by the management but it expected to be held before the Tour de France 2012.
