Thanks Innocent...

Ok... so I don't know that much about the solar system ;)

Well just make the large planets large and the small planets small and call it a day, get out his solar system book and paint them similar to what they are in there.

Thanks for the help!

  1. try looking in google first.

  2. You're not going to be able to get it in a 12 X 12 space, hon, not if you want accuracy, unless you're willing to make the planets the size of, oh, a pollen grain. There's a LOT of space out there. Earth is about 8,000 miles wide. The sun is about 93,000,000 miles away from Earth. Are you getting the idea? There are a couple of true scale models of the solar system, but Pluto ends up in a different state than the sun is in, many miles away.

Edit: Okay, I found a scale model, using the same scale for both planetary diameters, and distance from the sun. It's a one ten-billionth scale, and Earth is about the size of a pinhead. Here it is: http://www.jeffreybennett.com/solar_syst...

  3. Technically you can't have a scale model solar system is to big even bringing it down like 1000 times would still take a mile or so. But check places like target in there kids section or look online on how to build one.

Scale for 12x12 you would not even be able to see smaller planets like Mercury.  We have a scale model here at our Discovery Center.  The sun is about the size of a basket ball, Mercury is slightly smaller than a pin head----all the way to Pluto which is nearly a mile away down the greenbelt path.  I have guided the tour several times and most people p**p out at Saturn and head back to the Center.
