Hi,

Our electric meter is bang in the middle of our kitchen in a ludicrous position. when we renovated kitchen electrician said he couldnt do it as it was illegal. But we dont know who we ask to come and do it? Our electric supplier? Or someone else? I dont think scottish power will care will they?

Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to move it about 1 metre? Live in Leeds if area makes a difference!

If anyone can tell me who i need to contact id be grateful. thanks

  1. It would be down to your supplier. I was intending doing the same thing last year but changed my mind as it was too costly. They wanted £800 - £1000 to do it.

  2. You will need to contact your electricity supplier and it will cost around £350, that's the price I was quoted 5 years ago.

  3. i asked the same of my gas metre, but it was to expensive,so i boxed it and now its quite a useful little item to put ornaments on

  4. call the electric company. They will probably charge you to move it, however.

  5. I would say the company you buy your electricity from.

    John De Vries Ralph

  6. You are responsible for relocating the electric meter. So you need to call an electrical contractor and have them give you a price for moving it.

Your local utility company (power company) will then need to move the incoming electrical feed to wherever you relocate the meter. They have certain requirements as to where the new meter location could be.

Usually a good electrical contractor has contacts at the power utility company because they often call them for this kind of project where they need to work together.

You will have to pay the electrical contractor, but there should not be a charge from the utility company.
