It's just 2 of us. No kids. My husband is 52 & I'm .... not. Okay, I'm 40. We heard that New Zealand doesn't want people to move there if they're over a certain age, is that true?

We also heard that they will allow a move there if you bring a business with you. Would this apply to anything in the construction industry? What about the art industry?

Whats a good spot to check out if moving there is doable?

  1. You have to be under 55 at time of application. ie. 54 or younger.

Check out the NZ govt web site for details of the entrepreneurs visa.

    Good luck !

  3. I am from TX and lived, worked, owned property in NZ for years...I was married to a Kiwi though and my son is a Kiwi, you need to check with NZ immigration, call them on the phone listed on their site..the age shouldnt really be any big deal, and the business would have to be substantially large to be considered...they will pretty much let ANYONE in if you were rich and have a million bucks to invest right away (im serious)...

The BEST way to get a visa, is to get a job ahead of time, and have the employer sponsor you...but check with immigration via TELEPHONE and tell them your specifics and they will guide you...

    Good luck!

  4. Check out the NZ Immigration site. Your questions are specific to some of the criteria's listed. You can find the information at the link below. To note, at the moment the property and building industry is experiencing a downturn at present after many years of a very bouyant market (this for some may be a hinderance and for others an opportunity). We have skilled migrant visa's which you may be able to apply for although over 40's here in NZ generally find it difficult to find a job. In saying that though we do have a skills shortage.

  5. You'll have some reading to do....   You could do everything yourself instead of going through an agent.

Nelson - Top of the South Island is a very nice place, very 'arty'.  Construction is also very happening there, as it is all over NZ.  Wouldn't have a problem finding work in that area.

South Island is much nicer than the North Island in my opinon.

    Good Luck
