Hope you can help. We are a family with 2 little kids and we really want to move to a gorgeous seaside town where there a lovely walks and cafe's, shopping centres and loads of sporting and recreational facilities. Somewhere where the community is friendly, and with good schools of course.

We can afford up to $300 a week in rent.

We currently live off the Great Western Highway and there is nothing much here unless you have a car. Hopefully our new suburb will meet all our requirements all within walking distance.

Thanks for your help.

  1. Try the Illawarra, including Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama. Shellharbour or Kiama would probably suit you best.

Located 1-1.5hrs south of Sydney on the south coast, Shellharbour is a gorgeous place to live. Everything you mentioned, we have it. Walks, cafes, shops, sports and rec, friendly people and good schools.

$300 will get you something small but decent in Shellharbour village or a standard house in some of the more inland suburbs.

Kiama is a smaller village like town with enough close by so you dont need to have a car but you would probably still choose to travel out to Shellharbour from time to time. Everything is walking distance and you should get something for $300 a week but dont expect ocean views.

The area is great for raising kids, I was raised here and never intend to leave.

  2. Without a doubt, I'd say Coffs Harbour on the North Coast.

It is the most family orientated community between Sydney and Gold Coast, a place where the locals are so laid back and happy with life. Education wise the city is great, with a host of quality primary and high schools and a university campus. It terms of affordability it is also great, fuel is cheap because most is sourced out of Queensland and rising food prices aren't as bad, because it is centrally located on the Pacific Highway run between Brisbane and Sydney.

By the way did I mention it has and this is official Australian Best Climate. Even now in Winter we are still swimming in the water, the water temp is still 20 degrees, it is mild in winter and pleasant in Summer, unbeatable

  3. Maroubra or Coogee

  4. I agree with coast guard. It would be difficult to find a better place than Coffs Harbour on the NSW coast and it won't be as expensive as places like Byron Bay. Check it out.
