Question:

We want to travel by sea from Canada to Puerto Rico. Not a cruise.

Not looking for a cruise. We are considering buying a summer house in Puerto Rico. For many reasons it would make sense for us to travel there and back by sea, with our van and pets. Is this a possibility and what would such a voyage cost? We're okay to leave from anywhere in Canada - probably each January to return end of April. How long does it take? There are two of us - one Canadian/Brit dual citizen, one Canadian US. Anyone's help and advice will be much appreciated. We could also leave from Florida and the van is not a deal-breaker.

Thank you,

Alan M. Smith

  1. I'm sorry but .. heheheehe Good Luck with that !

  2. If you buy a home in PR, it makes more sense to buy a car there also. Transporting a vehicle to PR is costly. If you do, it makes more sense to drive to Florida and get on a ferry there.

  3. kanebo PR is right.

there is no other way to get directly from Canada to PR, unless u go from NY or NJ to Florida(by bus, train, cruise, car or plane. Florida is the easiest state to get to PR, because its closer, its approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes.

sending a car to PR is expensive, you might rent a car or buy a new-used one. if you are Canadian citizens u need passport, identifications with photo, birth certificate, social security card and any other traveling requirements.

  4. There are no ferries from Florida to Puerto Rico.  Or from any other place for that matter except the Dominican Republic.  Your van would have to be sent via a cargo ship from New Jersey or Florida.  Also, there are no passenger ships to Puerto Rico other than cruise ships and the DR ferry.
