We want to visit Mackinac in Sept, have our small dog with us, what's there to do?

We are considering visiting Mackinac in mid Sept, three couples, we have a Yorkie that will have to be with us. Are there still things to do in Mackinac, can we take the dog with us on the ferry and island, are alot of businesses going to be closed by then? And where can we stay with our dog? We live in Michigan, SE corner, but don't know much about Mack. Any info would be appreciated!
