Despite the far from convincing display, Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo voiced his side’s lofty ambitions for the summer and stated that they would do everything in their power to bring the trophy home.
"We have to have ambition, both in football and in life, to always be the best. We will go to Euro 2012 with the ambition to win. We know it will be difficult, but we have to think logically. The group stage will be difficult, but nothing is impossible,”
he said.
He also commented that there has to belief amongst the players that they can go all the distance and hoped that the fans would provide the same support to team like they had done way back in 2004.
"We have to believe we can win. The task is possible but we must keep our feet firmly on the ground. I hope people come to the stadiums and assist us, as it was in 2004; putting flags on homes, chanting songs of encouragement for us. We are all pulling in
the same direction," the Real Madrid attacker was quoted as saying.
Portugal are placed in perhaps the most strongest group of them all and if they win the European championships, it would truly be a remarkable turnaround in their fortunes.
