We want to win every game: Mickey Arthur disappointed with Aussie performance – Cricket News Update
Aussie Head Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969, came down hard on the national team for their poor performance in the last two matches of the ongoing Commonwealth Bank series.
“We want to win every game and we've been very disappointed by what's gone down over the last few games,” he said.
The Australian team got off to a gppd start in the current triangular series, claiming wins against India (by 65 runs), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 (by 5 runs).
However, things took a downward turn after that, with the Aussies losing to the Men In Blue by 4 wickets, and followed that with a heavy 8-wicket defeat to the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 – conceding an all so important bonus point.
"We showed a trend of losing in Adelaide and Sydney last night and it's never good to have back-to-back losses. We need someone to stand up for us tomorrow,” the head coach said, referring to the next match the team is due to play, scheduled for February
19 against India, at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
Arthur issued a dire warning, saying the upcoming match (vs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750) was a chance for the players to redeem themselves, or else all were well-aware of the 'consequences'.
He also singled out stand-in skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, by commenting on the added workload the veteran seemed to be going through, which has made him a bit jaded recently.
Ponting, whose outstanding career spans 374 ODIs, with 13697 runs, has disappointed in the series so far, scoring just 11 runs from the 4 encounters, at an appalling average of 2.75.
“I'd like to see Ponting in our team all the time but (…) every cricketer's currency is performance, that's what gets you into the Australian team,” explained the 43-year-old South African.
However, referring to the right-hander as 'inspirational', and a 'fantastic example', Arthur claimed that the team is lucky to have an individual as outstanding as Punter to fall back on, while further hoping that the batsman would be able to turn things
around for himself and consequently, the team.
