We were 20 runs short, laments Hamish http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 – Cricket News Update
Gloucestershire's T20 skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Marshall-c1525, rued that they were 20 odd runs short of a par total, after suffering a seven-wicket crushing at the hands of Warwickshire in a West Group Friends Life T20 match, played at County Ground Bristol, on Wednesday,
June 27, 2012.
"I think 140 would have been a decent score on that wicket and anything over that would have been very hard to chase," said Marshall while speaking to media reporters after the thumping.
"But we needed to score an extra run in each over and ended up about 20 runs short. The way the game panned out, proved we were short of a competitive score," he added further.
With only one win in four games, the Gladiators needed Wednesday’s match against the Bears, to keep alive their hopes of making the knock out stage. However, their batting faltered miserably against the Paul Best-led Warwickshire attack, as they could only
muster 122 for 7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs, thanks to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Cockbain-c63756, fell for single digit scores.
Housego top scored for the Gladiators with an unbeaten 59 off 61 balls, which also included three boundaries and a six. He, however lacked support from the rest of the batting line-up, and Marshall agreed that their failure to build partnerships with Housego
cost them the game.
"We needed a few guys to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 around with Dan and build meaningful partnerships. Unfortunately, we were unable to do that and we came up short of what was required."
Marshall and Co. will next play table http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 in an away match at Taunton on Friday, June 29. The Gladiators will need to win the match against Somerset to remain in contention for the Flt20 quarterfinals.
Marshall, who was given the reins of Gloucestershire’s Twenty20 team, to allow regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Gidman-c984 to focus on batting, admitted that playing Somerset in their home conditions would be a tough challenge, and urged the side to be at its best in the
do or die match on Friday night.
