We were a little rusty against the Scorchers, says Mahela Jayawardene – Cricket News Update
Despite beating Perth Scorchers in a crucial Group A fixture of the Champions League T20 2012, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, the Delhi Daredevils’ skipper, is not entirely satisfied with his side’s performance and admitted that they made
some fatal mistakes in the game.
Having won the toss, Jayawardene opted to bowl first on bowling-friendly conditions, keeping in mind his strong fast bowling line-up. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528, the lanky fast bowler, got rid of his former South African teammate, Herschelle
Gibbs, in his very first over.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543 consolidated the innings for the Scorchers, putting on 73 runs for the second-wicket partnership, but the middle-order batsmen failed to live up to the expectations, managing to reach just
121 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Delhi were expected to chase down the total without much of a fuss, taking into account their strong batting line-up. That was not to be as none of the Daredevils’ batsmen were able to cope with the pressure applied by the Scorchers,
apart from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739.
However, thanks to some lower-order resistance, Jayawardene’s men were able to cross the line in the last over of the match.
The skipper expressed that his side was rusty as they had just played one game in the tournament prior to that. Jayawardene thinks that the Daredevils should have achieved the target easily but praised the efforts of his bowlers.
“We haven't played for a week,” said Jayawardene. “So good to get out and play a good game. We made a few mistakes, which nearly cost us the game. We didn't handle a few situations well. We will have a chat,
but our bowlers and fielders did really well.”
Perth’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces.
“140 was where we needed to be, Looking at how it panned out, 140 looks like a good score. We had chances to get there, but we lost our way, losing Shaun and Simon in the middle. Still a lot of pride to play for and get our first
win up,” the discarded Test cricketer expressed.
