and their sale had begun! But, the items that were on show as 'in the sale' looked low value, hyped up to look a bargain and seemed just like they had been brought in for the so called 'Sale'... Anyone in the retailing trade confirm this please ? .............

  1. They wouldn't be allowed to do this.  These items have to be at a higher price for so long before they can be marked down.  There are laws that have to be adhered to.  Woolworth's would get a hefty fine if they did not.

  2. The legislation is not as clear cut as it should be.  The items only have to have been at the higher price in one store.

www.tradingstandards.gov.uk for leaflets on the law and also www.oft.gov.uk for further info

  3. Just before Christmas B &Q advertised on tv lampshades etc. I saw one i loved and went to the local to buy one. When we got there we were told they did not have any in stock, they were on special for about twenty pounds then, we were told that they would have them in stock the next day, went back the next day, none in stock this carried on for a couple of days. I then phoned and asked the lady if they were in stock yet and she went and had a look after i had to spell the name of the shade out three times. Came back about 10 minutes later and asked me to tell her what the name was again. I think they hype things up to get people into their shops , hold back the stock till the sales are over and then sell them for the price they originally went. It is just a bunch of lies and i will never ever buy anything at B&Q again, i hope one of the big shots there read this as they never seem to be working on the day i phoned as well.

Sorry had nothing to do with your question, but thought i would let of steam as well.:)
