We were pathetic in the second half, Kumar Sangakkara says after losing to Royals – Cricket News Update
Disappointed at his team’s third successive defeat in the latest instalment of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), the Deccan Chargers' skipper, Kumar Sangakkara, said that their bowling and fielding was pathetic against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals as they lost
the match by five-wickets .
While praising his batsmen for putting up a competitive 196-run total on the board, the Sri Lankan said that their bowling and fielding was below par against a formidable Rajasthan batting line-up.
“Our batters did a good job… They put up a good total on the board,” said the Chargers skipper after the match. “In the second half, we were pathetic. We fielded poorly and the bowlers, too, seemed to be short on confidence. We should be tight in all departments,”
he insisted.
Coming into the match after a seven-day rest, Chargers opted to bat first, aiming to score fast and put a staggering total on the board. The opening duo, featuring skipper Sangakkara and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Dhawan-c2392, provided the tourists with an outstanding start, sharing
a stand of 94 runs. After Sangakkara and Dhawan departed, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 kept the pace intact. Christian scored 29 runs from 19 balls while Duminy played a blatant unbeaten knock of 58 runs from just 26 deliveries to take the side to a competitive
20-overs total of 196.
But the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn-led Deccan attack failed to defend the colossal total as Rajasthan Royals' batsmen took the game away with a united performance, with five wickets and two balls intact.
“Full credit to them (Royals)... I think they batted really well,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 while speaking to the media reporters at the post-match press conference.
“But then, we also made it easier for them. We should have been tight in our fielding,” he added further.
Sangakkara’s Rajasthan counterpart, Rahul Dravid also felt his bowlers were out of sorts on Tuesday.
“I think that today (Tuesday) we were a bit lucky with this game. Our batsmen did well… But I don’t think that we bowled as well as we could have,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, who retired from international cricket last month.
