Im interested in hotels and great spots to visit out of the ordinary. We will be renting a car in Paris then traveling untill we get to Rome, this is where we fly home.

  1. I have to add to Paul's advice... when in france hold on to your belongings, was almost robbed there before in a train!

People can be somewhat deceptive and rude, sorry but only got bad experiences in France, coming and going!

  2. You want my advice, skip France....

  3. Rent Furnished Apartments instead of Hotels. They cost even less than Hotels in many cases and you get your own kitchen.

This page has the apartment rental agencies listed on it:

Also, when traveling in small cities, don't speak English loudly. They don't like it....:)

  4. There is nothing wrong with france as long as you try to be respectful (saying bonjour madame/monsieur and merci goes a long way)Please don't be scared away by people's bad stories about France.  I was living in Paris during the October riots and never felt unsafe.  When my parents visited they said that they felt less afraid of being robbed than they did in Italy. I've been to Paris a few times now (including a 4 month stay) and never even came close to being robbed and I was carrying a shoulder bag at a really busy flea market.

Paris is a very fun city, Deauville in Normandy is where all the Parisians like to relax on the beach and the South is beautiful(Avignon has a cool Medieval feel and the Camargue is a beautiful place to go birdwatching).

In Belgium I found Bruges to be wonderful.  It has a great kind of old Europe feel and there is a lot of cool art to look at.

In Germany I have visited Cologne and Munich.  I found Munich to be more beautiful and the museums are great, the u-bahn there is very easy to use (buy one of the welcome passes at the tourist office in Marienplatz if you want to save money). Munich is a great city to check out by bicycle, there are separate sidewalks for bikers and its a pretty flat city.

  5. We went to germany, france and belgium last spring.  we flew to nurnberg and drove from there.  We stayed in Paris for a few days and drove to Normandy- first to Mont-Saint-Michel.  Mont St. Michael has to be the most amazing site I've ever seen.  If you're going to France put this on the list of sites. I've added a few websites to show you.
