We will have an edge over the Indians, claims http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 – Cricket News Update
Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, is of the opinion that his side will have an edge over India in the five-match One Day International (ODI) series because the Islanders have played a lot of competitive cricket in the last couple of months.
The battle between the two Asian teams starts today at Hambantota, with both the teams looking to prepare for the forthcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September.
The home team just finished a full-fledged series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, where Jayawardene’s men outclassed the Green Shirts in the ODI series as well as the Tests.
The seasoned middle-order batsman feels that his team have the upper hand because they are fresh off a well-fought international competition, which is not the case with India, who have not played any cricket since the Asia Cup 2012, which was held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747
in March.
Jayawardene however, understands that the Indian players will be much fresher compared to his side, and their energy level is likely to be better in the series.
"We have had the match practice and the guys are in pretty good form, we will try and continue that,” the Sri Lankan captain expressed. “For the Indians, it's a different story, they have to get back to a rhythm. On the other hand, they are fresher than
us after us going through six months of continuous cricket."
On the other side of the picture, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, who has struggled with fitness issues in the last couple of
years, is returning to the global arena since India’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year.
His captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 feels that he will have to use him wisely but also understands that playing international matches is the only way the left-arm fast bowler can regain match-fitness.
"[Managing Zaheer's workload] is important but I don't think we need to think about it from the very first game. We need to also get him match-fit," said Dhoni.
