We will miss Ronnie O’Sullivan, says Barry Hearn – Snooker Update
Ronnie O’Sullivan is always in news for his words or actions. In the 2012 China Open snooker event, the Essex Exocet appeared in his post event press conference and started smoking during that which was caught by the critics. This time, the Wordsley potter
has indulged into another controversy with the snooker governing body, World Snooker.
Before the 2012 World Snooker Championship finished, the World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn made an announcement that the World Snooker has added a couple of new tournaments. Due to these events, the potters will be busy all the year except for the Christmas
and first month after the season starts.
The Englishman made a statement after the finish of the 2012 World Snooker Championship that he will not take part in all major ranking snooker tournaments in the recent season because he wants to take a break.
He spoke to the Grove Leisure, “I have decided not to enter any tournaments for the time being, including this year's Premier League and forthcoming WPBSA ranking events. I have not signed the player's contract as I feel the contract is too onerous and am
in a stage of my career where I don't wish to make this commitment.”
The Englishman has not signed the contract with the World Snooker thinking that he will take part in selective tournaments. However, even playing in any of the scheduled tournament he needs to sign the contract. Hearn has said that O’Sullivan is free to
choose the event to play but he has to sign the contract and after that he can select any event to play.
Speaking to World Snooker, Hearn said, “As much as we will miss Ronnie O'Sullivan in World Snooker events, we simply can't make exceptions for one player's individual requirements. Our duty is to treat all of the players equally.”
England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan played impressively in the last snooker season despite the fact that he suffered from glandular fever. Due to his illness and after effects, he had to pull out of 2012 Haikou World Open and the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship
(PTC) Grand Finals. With his outstanding form, he was able to clinch his fourth World Snooker Championship title beating Ali Carter by the score line of 18-11.
