We will play aggressive cricket, says Mahela Jayawardene – Cricket News Update
The Sri Lankan captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, said on Monday that they will go out and play aggressive cricket against England in the second and final Test of the series starting at the P. Sara Oval, Colombo on Tuesday, to inflict a 2-0 whitewash on the world's
No. 1 Test side.
Speaking to media reporters ahead of the Colombo Test, Jayawardene, who was recently reappointed the captain of the team after Tillakaratne Dilshan stepped down in February, said that while playing against teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, one needs to adopt an aggressive
policy right from the first ball, and this is what they will be doing at Colombo this week.
"We'll try and win the series 2-0 as that's when we play our best cricket," said the right-handed Colombo batsman. "When you are playing a team like England you have to be aggressive, play to win from ball one and look to get in front of them. That's what
we will try to do,” he added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, losing five and drawing two
of them. Last week’s 75-run win over the Poms at Galle was only their second Test win in the post-Murali era.
Having won the series opener, the hosts need to draw the Colombo Test to break the jinx. A Sri Lankan win in Colombo will propel the Proteas to the top of ICC’s Test rankings table, at the expense of the English team.
Dilshan agreed that the side has lacked consistency over the past couple of years. He urged the players to emulate the Galle performance in the second Test, as well as to complete a series whitewash against the struggling visitors.
"As a team we need to be consistent. It is important for us to have a really good Test match and we'll play to win," Jayawardene reiterated. "To do that we need to do a lot of hard work like we did in Galle. We were put under pressure in certain situations
and we came up strong," he added.
