We will target Phillip Hughes’ weaknesses, vows Dale Steyn – Cricket News Update
South Africa’s strike bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409, is eying on taking full advantage of the Australian opener, Phillip Hughes’ weak spots, when both team will meet in the upcoming Test series.
Hughes is not a part of Aussie crew which is currently engaged in a three-match ODI series against the Proteas, but will be available to serve his country during a couple of Test matches next
month.
The young opener demonstrated an excellent show with the bat in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where he amassed 202 runs in five Test innings.
The other regular opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, is yet to gain his complete fitness and therefore, Hughes will be a crucial player at the Australian top-order against South Africa’s dangerous
bowling attack.
On the other hand, Steyn is adamant that he and his colleagues will perform well and target Hughes’ weaknesses during the big series.
“Not to take anything away from Phillip, he played unbelievably well against us when he came here and it looked like we didn’t know where to bowl to him in all honesty and that`s, I think,
why he got off to such a fantastic start,” said Steyn who is sitting at the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test bowlers’ ranking at the moment.
Hughes’ previous trip to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in 2009 was a great one for the left-handed batsman. The 22-year-old made the most of wide offerings by the South African bowlers and finished the series
as the highest run-getter – 415 runs in three matches.
Steyn admitted that the Proteas did take things lightly and bowled too wide last time, but made it clear that the South African attack is much improved at the moment than the one a couple
of years ago.
“One of the things we said was that we didn`t want to bowl wide to him and then we did, it was one of those childish things where you say to a kid, ``don`t touch the frying pan, you`re going
to burn yourself, and then you end up touching the frying pan and burn yourself. That`s what happened to us,” added the 28-year-old pacer who is likely to join hands with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842 to trouble the mighty Kangaroos.
