Weaker teams suffer more if DRS is not present, says Mustafa http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069- Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Monday backed the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) saying that due to the absence of DRS in a match, weaker teams suffer more.
"I was listening to the commentators during the recently concluded Pakistan series. Everyone mentioned there that we got bad decisions," said Kamal while talking to media reporters at the sidelines of the launch ceremony of the 2012
Asia Cup.
"If those decisions went our way, the cricket would have been more competitive but we couldn't do that. To err is human. I cannot talk against umpires being an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 director, but I have seen that against weaker countries, there are
more wrong decisions," he added further.
The BCB chairman was referring to the fourth day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, when the hard hitting opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 was given caught-out despite the ball appearing
to have struck batsman’s helmet before flying towards http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, at slip.
The decision would definitely have been reversed if DRS was used. It was a crucial time for the Tigers who were in pursuit of saving the match, and the series.
Since then the Decision Review System has once again become the subject of debate. Soon after that match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Kamal, who has recently been nominated by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and Bangladesh for the ICC vice-president role, said that the issue was raised in ICC’s general body meeting a few months ago and DRS was made mandatory for Tests and ODIs by a majority
vote. But after three months, the apex body revoked the decision leaving it up to the respective boards to decide whether to use the technology in a bilateral series or not.
Whilst BCCI has been a strong opponent of the technology, most of the boards fail to use it due to budget constraints. But Kamal said that they will use review system in the next http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 series and it will be part of the television
deal.
"In our deal with Nimbus, there was no DRS. But from next April, when we will discuss with another broadcaster, we will tell them to include DRS in all our games."
