Question:

Weaning and frozen vegetables?

My baby is 6 months old and I started to wean him a couple of weeks ago. I usually cook a vegetable and then do a batch of little pots to go in the freezer.

I wanted to add peas to a potato mash tonight but my partner told me I can't use a frozen vegetable, cook it and then freeze it again.

I know it's true for most foods and ready meals but does it apply to fresh frozen peas?

  1. You can use frozen peas. They're not the best but they're better than canned. I always freeze my daughter's baby food after I make it even it was frozen before I steamed it.

  2. yes you can definatly use them(they are also just as nutritional) a good book to buy would be annabel karmel she has some fab recipes and tips!!x

  3. I guess I never thought of it that way. I often use frozen veggies in different hot dishes and whatnot and then refreeze them and I've never had a problem. I'm not sure how the puree would play into that, but I would think they'd be okay! There is very little bacteria in vegetables- bacteria is the main concern for refreezing foods. I think you'd be fine!

  4. If you cooked fresh veg and then froze it, you can absolutely use it in your potato mash tonight.  This applies to any fresh food.

If you cooked a frozen veg and re-froze it, then it really has little to no nutritional value left and probably won't taste very good.
