Question:

Weaning off Alimentum?

My son had a diaper with about 1/2 teaspoon of bloody mucous in it when he was three months old. Diagnosed with milk protein allergy and with other breast feeding problems, we started him on alimentum. Now he is 10 months old and we are starting to wonder about the steps for stopping the alimentum and reintroducing milk protein.

  1. First you need to get the ok from the peditrican. Most babies do get over milk protein allergies by 6 months of age but others NEVER get over it. Your peditrican should do an extensive allergy test to assure no moer intolerence remains.

Once you have been given the go ahead you will mix 50% alimentum and 50% whatever milk based brand formula you would like. You will do 50/50 then 25/75 then 100% milk based. The switch should take about a week. Always remain vigilant for signs of allergy.

Also, you may want to switch to soy formula. Milk proteins can be so rough on babies tummies.

  2. i hope you get some good advice cause my son is on alimentum too and he is 6 months and soon i will be in your shoes. if you could please e-mail me any good info that you get on this matter
