Weapons Guide: Firearms Dead Rising 2 – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 & PC – Part 2
Players can find the Handgun and Shotguns fairly easily throughout the game as more often than not, Fortune City’s zombified Security Guards will be carrying them around with them. Yet, if players want to get their hands on the more powerful firearms, they
ought to be willing to fight for them.
Merc Assault Rifle (MAR)
The Merc Assault Rifle gets its name from the Mercenaries that have made it their weapon of choice. It comes equipped with a scope that makes aiming and accuracy at medium range a fairly simple task, the MAR benefits from packing a stronger punch as well
as being fully automatic.
In real life, the weapon is called a SIG SG 552 Commando but for the sake of keeping things simple one can just as easily call it a Merc AR.
The firearm comes with a 30-round magazine and players ought to be cautious at how and when they use it as holding the trigger down will have the gun eating through the ammo in mere seconds without much accuracy.
The Merc AR’s strength is to use it in short controlled bursts that will deal a hefty amount of damage without sacrificing accuracy. A great weapon to use against Psychopaths as well as the mercenaries themselves, the Merc should be given preference over
both the Shotgun and the Handgun.
It can be taken from any mercenary a player dispatches, and after the battle with TK’s helicopter, it can be found by the elevators just as a player enters Fortune City Hotel. It can also be combined with the electric chair to make a very cool and fun vehicular
weapon known as the Blitzkrieg.
The Merc Assault Rifle gets a solid 8/10, but if a player has to choose between a Shotgun or the Merc AR it is recommended that player opts for the latter.
Sniper Rifle
Players who wish to use the mighty sniper rifle can do so in two ways. The first is the simple and easy way which is to head up on to the upper floor of the Palisades Mall and enter a shop named High-Noon Shooting Range.
*the store also has Shotguns and Handguns on offer.
The other way is more of a challenge as players will have to find the four rednecks who have taken sniping positions along the rooftops of Silver Strip and Fortune Park. The rednecks appear later on in the game as Psychopaths and it is recommended that the
player eliminate them, as they can prove to be quite a nuisance with their pot shots.
The Sniper Rifle is a very powerful single shot rifle and its adjustable zoom scope makes it great for picking off enemies at a distance, however, the weapon can be quite effective at close range as well. A single bullet can travel through multiple zombies
and this makes lining up the undead and taking down four or even five at a time a load of fun.
The sniper rifle is great for battles with bosses as well as Psychopaths and it is recommend that players keep one with them at all times after they have levelled up till level 30.
It holds 20 rounds and each round has the potential to deal massive amounts of damage against both zombies and mercenaries. However, players lacking the skill and patience needed for being a good marksman should stay away from the weapon.
The Sniper Rifle gets a brilliant 9/10 and comes highly recommended.
