Weapons Guide: Introduction and Firearms Dead Rising 2– PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 & PC – Part 1
One of many aspects that sets Dead Rising apart from other games is the originality and extent to which a player can customise their character in terms of both appearance as well as weapons he can carry.
Dead Rising 2’s protagonist, Chuck Greene, can use almost any object as a weapon to use against the seemingly infinite number of zombies the game has to offer.
To prove this point bricks, handbags, spray paint and giant whipped cream canisters are just a few of the more eyebrow raising day to day items the game allows players to use as weapons.
On a more ‘rational’ note guns, baseball bats, sledgehammers, fire axes, pitch forks and grenades are also littered throughout the enormous Fortune City.
Yet the real joy comes when players can combine various items with duct tape and make an all new weapon with increased damage, range and PP bonuses (which allow Chuck to level up).
One should start with the various guns that players can use throughout the game.
While guns may not be the weapon of choice when playing the game, as they are not as effective against zombies, they do help greatly when a player has to take on the various Psychopaths in the game. Also they are a great help in the hands of survivors that
need rescuing, making Chuck’s job all the more simpler.
Handgun
The first gun the player will be able to get his hands on will be the pistol, or Handgun as Capcom likes to call it. Holding up to 30 rounds, this is a great weapon to pass on to survivors, while its effectiveness in the hands of the player himself is minimal.
Blind-firing the Handgun makes it highly inaccurate and apart from headshots it takes up to four rounds to down a zombie.
The handgun can be found in many places, from zombified Security Guards to various shop counters, making it one of the most abundantly available firearms.
Unless a player intends to pass on this weapon to a survivor or for some quick shooting fun, the Handgun is one weapon that a player should not waste his inventory slot for.
It gets a weak 5/10.
Shotgun
The shotgun is a step up from the Handgun in more ways than one; not only does it have more kick in terms of damage but it also has greater spread as its pellets will, as the term suggests, spread over a larger area allowing players to bring down more zombies.
Its weakness comes in the form of having very limited range as targets that are further away will barely take any damage. However, come to close range combat, the Shotgun can hold its own.
It is not recommended that players give the survivors shotguns as more often than not, the friendly AI will end up shooting Chuck as well, if he ends up in their line of fire. Yet it is a good choice against Psychopaths.
The shotgun can be found with Security Guards especially in the Arena as well as throughout Silver Strip and certain areas of Fortune Park.
If a player can afford to carry one there is no harm in adding the shotgun to their inventory despite its limited range.
The shotgun gets a 8/10.
