Have nations been justified in developing and/or using weapons of mass destruction?

  1. Many people will go, "Yes, for self-defense," until they are hit by one. Then they'll go, "Gee maybe that wasn't such a good idea."

    Did you know that the scientists who developed the A-bomb petitioned the U.S. government to do a demonstration of it for the Japanese, to give them a chance to surrender before it was actually deployed on their populace?

    It's lunacy.  Everybody knows it. Not many will say it out loud.

  4. Nations are responsible for protecting their citizens. The U.S. may not like the fact that China, Russia, Afghanistan, Korea, Jeresulem, Venezuela, Cuba, Pakistan, Spain, Portugal, etc., etc., may be developing weapons to protect themselves; but, the U.S. is also developing weapons of protection.

    It is possible that the weapons each country develops for protection could also be used for destruction.

    The Monguls, Greeks, Romans, Jewish armies, protected their civilization via the use of weapons--weapons developed to annihilate their enemies.  The weapons these civilizations utilized were considered, in their day, "weapons of mass destruction".

    The Springfield Rifle, the Gatlin Gun, and many other "weapons" were developed, manufactured, and produced to further someone's cause.

    The Northern and Confederate armies used their weapons to destroy and conquer.

    Justification alludes to excuse, pretext, vindication, support, a reason for action.
