Question:

Wear in track and field?

I have been running cross-country for about 3 years now, and have done fairly good at it. My friends tell me that I am a really fast sprinter, as at the end of my cross country races, I always do a sprint, and people tell me I go really fast.

So this year I have decided to get into track and field. As far as I know, my school doesn't have a track team, so I will have to go in alone, without any guidelines.

What I want to ask, is what do I wear? I am getting some spikes, but what about other clothes, like shirts and shorts? I have some silk shorts(or I don't know, whatever they are called...) and a comfortable t-shirt. Is this good, or are there special clothes I should wear?

  1. some shorts and a comfy t shirt should be fine. i usually dont buy all those fancy clothing...i save the money for really good spikes. thats all that matters. so you should be fine. good luck with track. i been running track for 3 years now, and i love it. i'm sure you will too.

  2. possibly black shorts, school colors?

  3. if you are going to be a sprinter then you will want to buy shoe that are you for that distance 100 yard dash, 200 yard or

    even 400 yard dash used the same type of shoe.

    as for your training, 10 ea 330 yard runs at 3/4 speed

    5 ea 220 yards at 1/2 speed

    2 ea 440 yard runs at 1/4 speed

    and  practice your technique for coming out of the starting blocks, stay low at first and then start to come up in a more up right running style. also practice your arm motion more forward swing, avoid side to side motion, find a good book on  running technique and workout gear,,,, good luck

    P.S. and always warn up and do stretch, but avoid bouncing

    again buy a book on running  technique

  4. You probably already know this, but don't get anything too baggy or it will slow you down.

  5. Clothes should always be

    Safe;

    Comfortable;

    Clean.

    And as above, baggy / heavy clothes aren't to good.

    I wear very tight clothing - like 'skins'. This is good to wear as it will keep you body temperature stable. It is light weight, breathable, wickable. That is, you wont stay wet when you sweat. This helps post training recovery.

    Whatever you wear, no one will laugh or frown unless you wear your pj's.
