  1. There is no mixed message here.

Back in bad old late sixties, a blanket ban was imposed on all military personnel wearing uniforms in public when off duty.

The reason for the ban was because they (we) were an easy target for the IRA terrorists.

I feel that the same reason applies today, the threat is just as real, just a different terrorist group.

  2. as the government has not listened to the public about Iraq or any other issue recently how are we to be heard.

This is a result of frustration with government policy.

I do not however condone this type of behaviour.

  3. I think it's more of a case of, the British public should behave themsleves more.

They shouldt encounter prejudism because of their job, and he is right, we should be gratefull to them

  4. A serviceman/woman should wear their uniform with pride, anywhere in the UK and at any time !!

I served in the RAF during the IRA problems and we were not allowed to wear our uniforms off camp then, and I personally thought it was wrong but had to comply.

This is yet another example of how we are being denegrated by this government and foreigners who have no right to be on our islands.

Stand up for ourselves and our rights.  We fought Hilter to stop the Jerries taking over Europe, and hey presto, 60 odd years on we are part of his great master plan, but in another guise.

We should not be told or dictated to by anyone (including our own government) as to what or when our proud service personnel (many of whom are dying or being seriously wounded) should wear and when.

I say it again - WEAR YOUR UNIFORM WITH PRIDE !!!!!!!

If people are issuing threats against service personnel or insulting them then it is a police matter and these racist bigots should be dealt with - as any service personnel who insulted them would be. Race relations works both ways - supposedly - as long as you are not British and White !!

Suppose it also helps if you can play 'Spot the Policeman'!!

    Additonal:

The PM is the Queens' spokesman, and therefore the services are duty bound to follow his direction i.e. Going to war against Iraq.   However, should the CO of an individual unit take such a drastic action without consulting their superiors, they would be acting autonomously and would clearly have to back up their action.  In this case I believe there are 3 or 4 mixed Service bases within a close proximity to Peterborough and you cannot impose this 'sanction' on one set of personnel and not on the others.

  5. Of course they should wear their uniforms with pride when they go out in public!

I have a big problem with the so called Iraq War but not with the men and women who are serving there. They are doing a horribly difficult job under the worst circumstances.

Anyone who cannot see the difference between the politicians who sent them and the army, air force and navy personnel who serve doesn't deserve respect, not the other way round.

Edit oops sorry! Brain in flight today!  No he shouldn't try to overrule the officer. He knows his men and the territory!

  6. they should  wear them in public & we should be proud of them for the job they do,

people who insult them or do  anything to them should be arrested & be  dealt with by the full force of the law , its the QUEENS  uniform  & they serve the  queen & our country so anything said or done  is  an offence against the crown,

if they dont like our military  they need to leave this country  wether they  were born here or whatever, they would soon  moan if te military were disbanded & we had  no one to protect us & our country we would  soon be  taken over,

me i am proud of any one who serves our queen & country & i am proud to show it every where i go i have  my badge  support our troops on & support our troops on the back of my vehicle & let any one try   say i should not,

now is the time for our police force to get of their  ar$$es & do somthing about it  we pay them to  police the streets not turn a blind eye to these people
