I am leaving to Germany next month from Los Angeles and I was wondering if I would have any trouble with the LAX security for wearing this shirt. It just has the US flag upside down.

  1. you might but thats not right that you would you have a right in this counrty to express yourself so they say

  2. I think you'll greatly increase the odds of being pulled aside for a secondary search by wearing a shirt like that. Afterall, what security is looking for are people that are looking to do harm to American interests and wearing something anti-American will certainly give them cause for further scrutiny.  You've got the right to wear the shirt, but security has got the right to do whatever they deem necessary (and sometimes unnecessary) as well.

  3. The flag...to me, represents all the men and women who have fought for the freedom that a lot of Americans take for granted. Many who have died and are still dying today.

So yes, you do have the freedom to wear your t-shirt with an upside down flag.  But, remember others will have the freedom to not approve of it and you may get some flack for it.  Like one of the other posters said, you might want to pack a more appropriate garment.  Like many Americans, people from other Countries take pride in their flags and they may take offense of you wearing something like that.

  4. That isn't a security breach so you can wear it however, I don't think it would be the wisest thing to wear. If you feel strongly about your freedom of speech/expression, wear it... I applaud your conviction even if I don't agree with your statement.   Also I wouldn't be surprised if you get selected for a "random" security search.

  5. Despite what others have answered I think there's a very good chance you will be asked by airline personnel to either change shirts or find a different carrier.  Airline policy allows them broad latitude to determine what is/isn't might/might not be considered offensive.  There are plenty of ways and times to express your freedom of speech.  Wearing that shirt in this type of environment might easily be construed as purposefully inciting trouble.  And although your right to express your opinions is guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, traveling on an airline is not.

  6. I've heard of people being asked to change clothes before because of a "possibly offensive" T-shirt. I'd suggest you err on the side of caution and either pack an extra T-shirt in your hand baggage or wear something more appropriate. Sometimes it's just not worth the effort for the risks involved, though I applaud your right to express yourself.

  7. Why do you feel that you have to wear that shirt on this flight. It's a month in advance. It seems strange to me that you would plan so far in advance what to wear, and that you would want to wear something that could be considered disrespectful.

The flag represents freedom. The freedom for you to be able to disrespect America and her soldiers.

Would you travel to another country and wear their flag upside down? Probably not. Don't wear the shirt. The airport isn't going to do anything about it probably, but it's just not wise.
