I will be taking a MSF riding course next week. Is it ok to wear the work boot? It will cover my ankles. OR should I invest a 3/4 to full length motorcycle boot now?

  1. well. me and all my friends all do motocrossing. we all wear work boots with steel toe caps. but i do wear off road motocross boots for tracks. as there alot better. you dont hurt youre shin and less chance breaking your legs

  2. as long as they cover your ankle they will be fine for the MSF course

  3. Any boot that covers your ankles is fine.  There is no reason for them to be higher than covering that ankle bone that sticks out.

Steel toes are for dropping things on your feet, and this very seldom happens in a motorcycle accident.  Also M/C boots ideally shouldn't have laces that can come untied and get tangled up in the machinery. (I have this problem with my shoes, I think it's the wind that makes them come untied).

  4. MSF says over the ankle. OK for this course.

  5. Do they have metatarsal guards? If they do, they probably won't fit under the shifter. I know mine won't, anyway. Otherwise, you should be fine.

  6. The requirement is to have your ankles covered.

I wear safety toe boots all the time.

You may find out in due course what the toe is good for.

    I can't tell a new rider - bad influence.

  7. Hi, some motorcycle people and bodies think steel toe caps are bad, due to some claims that the cap can cut off your toes-   but i watched myth busters who showed basically that  the steel cap is safe and can withstand an incredible amount of wieght.  The only  removals  that seemed to happen - from what i rememebr of the episode- uccurred when the  cutter ' bounced' and on the second  blow hit just behind the cap.

Myself i think wearing a steel toe boot is more lightly to save your  toes , if a car runs it over- which happend to my mate in London- on a courier job.

I wear steel capped boots and been riding  17 years.

  8. as long as you have a decent quality boot that covers your ankle, you should be fine for riding.

  9. you are good.
