NASA has already identified these systems as being able to provide many times the global needs for energy production by using space based solar concentrators. So why are we still using fossil fuels?

If we used fossil fuels JUST for producing products (asphalt, antifreeze, plastics, ...) then we would have a supply that would last a thousand years and more. However, by using fossil fuels as fuel, we have less than a 100 year supply while producing enormous amounts of pollution.

Also, the mechanism by which solar concentrators work, is the same mechanism by which global weather can be controlled. (dissipating hurricanes, dissipating tornados, eliminating droughts, providing predictable rainfall, eliminating extreme temperatures, rebuilding glaciers and the artic ice pack, ....)

How do we influence politicians to actively create a system?

and it's not good to control "mother nature" LOL

there is a book by sidney shelton which talks about consequences when someone tries to control the weather, actually it will lead to more disaster than good

instead, the best way is to do our little bits to contribute and help reduce global warming

People that don't make an effort to learn about anything, take the stance that it is better to do nothing.  They are basically lazy and ignorant, and try to rationalize not doing anything.

They are the same people who are the first to jump up and criticize other people's efforts instead of positively contributing with useful knowledge to promote an idea.

Obviously, I don't have any respect for people that criticize without producing anything themselves.  Watch the line of reasoning some people are going to use.  You can tell who is ignorant and trying to say something to build their own poor self-esteem.  Blind and uninformed criticizm runs rampant throughout pages where people express their insights.

My own contribution?

I wrote my political representatives and requested they produce a global energy system that mandates the use of clean energy resources.

Did you know that the Government subsidizes hydro-electric plants NOT to produce electricity, so that coal fired plants can be competitive?

Did you know that the railroad is taxed heavily to ensure they can not haul freight for less than trucking companies?

Did you know that barges still can haul freight for pennies on the dollar while using far less fuel than trucking companies?

We have fuel efficient technologies, but the Government taxes those industries unfairly.

Fossil fuels are more available for the consumer and once we run out of oil or kill ourselves before that, there will be a very slow or no change at all. We love the way it is until there is a crisis. Human history shows this. It's sad, but true.

So if we want change, we need an end of using petroleum scare. How can that be facilitated? I don't know precisely, but the e-mail is a good start.

We don't control the weather because some very greedy people would actively oppose it. Imagine everybody could grow their own crops and not need to buy from the US, prices would not be manipulated from New York, etc etc

so if the world got plenty of rain and food was easy to have. what would we do about the bigger population?  wouldnt having more population be bader then global warming?

There are many alternatives to fossil fuel energy, and the economics of scale can make them competitively affordable.  But anything in space (as demonstrated by the recent satellite that we had to shoot-down) isn't as simple as it may sound.

The reason alternative energy generation is growing slowly, is because huge investments have been made to build the current power generation systems.  And powerful groups want a return on their investments.
