  1. Hi - we have just returned from Cuba (Cayo Coco) over the last few days.  A hurricane hit the island during our first week (it was about 125 miles from us) but unfortunately it did result in us having 3 days of rain although I think this is quite unusual.  However, this did not stop us from having a wonderful holiday.  Cuba is great, especially the people.  We stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco - we got friendly with one of the waitresses - she and her friend took us to Moron on the mainland.  They also took us to where they live which is a real eye opener - they have nothing but as soon as we arrived the families gave us gifts and rushed in to get us coconuts filled with rum!  We also went to a lake for lunch and 3 old farmers were there with their guitars (this wasn't planned, just pure coincidence) they asked us all our names and made up songs about us - although we didnt understand a word they were saying this was really funny.  We had a day out that we will never forget.  Which hotel are you staying in?  I really wouldnt worry about the hurricane, you will have a fantastic time!

  2. Not from Gustaf  he will be long gone.  You can check the site  below, it has an almanac for  previous years.  Think positive.

  3. Don't worry too much about the hurricane. I usually travel to Cuba around that time and in Cayo Coco (and I was actually there the exact same time last year...*sigh* wish I was there now lol). You'll be fine. If you have any rain, it'll be a tropical shower that will last for a few minutes during the day...and IF there is rain, it is usually for a short period of time around dinner time or middle of the night.

The likelihood of a hurricane there is extremely small. And Hurricane Gustav will be history in a day's time and there will be no repercussions from it. Usually storms pass over Cuba and don't make serious landfall...especially Jardines del Rey area. Your trip will not be ruined from the weather. It is a beautiful time of year to go to Cuba....and Cayo Coco is just gorgeous.

Which resort will you be staying at? If you are staying at Tryp Cayo Coco, let me know so I can tell you who to keep an eye out for that works there. You'll have an amazing time!

  4. Im going to Iberostar Daiquiri in Cayo Coco on the 10 sep 08, I have my fingers crossed that the hotel has not been effected by Hurricane Gustav.

For anyone going to the Cayo Coco. You might find the link i have attached  below usefull.

  5. Don't worry about the hurricane. In Cuba that makes no difference. After the hurricane goes away you keep doing what you were doing before

  6. Hurricane season will be over in the next couple of weeks.  Besides most Hurricanes only catch the north west tip of Cuba.  Cayo Coco is in the central east part of cuba.  Your worst case scenario would be a week of clouds which i really doubt.

  7. Neither Gustav nor Hanna will affect you - both will be long gone. But there may be others by then.

I think that Cayo Coco suffers less from hurricanes than other parts (though I suspect taht the south east - Granma Province - has suffered the worst in recent years.

There a good chance that you won't be affected by a hurricane - but if you are, the Cubans will help you to make the best of things.
