Hi! My boyfriend have been to Costa Rica four times usually during October/November. The weather has been good and there has been great surf. We are getting married in June and planning our honeymoon in CR, I am curious if anyone could share there experiences with the weather and Surf during June. How is the rafting during this month? We usually rent a car and drive everywhere which already scares me in dry season :) Thank you.

  1. Costa Rica is usually quite muggy in June, since it is the beginning of hurricane season. This time of year, thunderstorms ususally prevail mostly in the afternoon. If you are planning a trip there at that time, keep a close watch on what the weather is doing and if you see any dark clouds approaching, be assured its going to get rather nasty.

  2. it smells of burritos.

  3. Hi, i lived in San Jose, CR for 1 month during June and July.  June is CR "wet season" and that is true.  San Jose is up in the mountains and every night it would rain and right around lunch time there would be a down pour.  But up in the mountain areas the temperatures are a lot more moderate. Only in the 70's F.  When you head to the playas and drop down in elevation (ie. out of the mountains) the temperatures definitely warm up and the weather is a lot more humid.  Up in the mountains you don't get that much humidity unless you go into the rain or cloud forests.

The surfing is better on the Pacific side and the central coast to southern regions pick up the better swell at this time of year.  The surfing areas around Jaco are really fun and it rains everyday at the beach.  Driving is not that bad, but make sure you get 4WD.  The rain is very short and it is about 90 degrees F at the beaches with 100% humidity.  Go to Playa Hermosa, Esterillos and Dominical.

If you want good fast barrels go to Hermosa or Dominical!! Dominical is farther south from Jaco(about 3 hours drive) but the town and surf are well worth it. Inexpensive place in Dominical right on the beach. We paid $30 US/ night for a room w/ AC directly across from the beach. The place was called Tortilla Flats. Nice places and clean. Try and go to Manuel Antonio too. Cool national park.

I also went rafting sout east of San Jose on the Reventazon Pascua River. It was very calm. I think it only got up to Class 3 rapids. Nothing extreme.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Bad idea. It's rain season from May to September. Then "summer time" from Oct to April. Your choice though
