Weather delay halts play at Wyndham
Before the start of the tournament, it was expected that the weather would intervene at some point over the weekend and so it happened.
The rain halted the play at the end of the day but good news was that majority of the players had finished their rounds before the rain interruption.
The interruption was for about 90 minutes and after that, there was no time for play to resume. Those who had not finished their second rounds will be given the first priority on the course on Saturday.
They might play their third round on the same day as well, so it might get a little hectic for them.
The defending champion, Webb Simpson birdied the 17th and 18th hole to finish the round, one shot adrift of the leader Jimmy Walker. The moment Simpson finished his round, the rain began.
Simpson was pretty happy about the fact that he is now getting back in to his groove. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship after coming back from a long break.
“To play a round on a golf course this tricky without a bogey is always a good thing,” Simpson said.
Meanwhile, Tim Herron equalled the course record by shooting 61. It was a magnificent come back from him after shooting a 76 in the first round. Herron sits at 133 in the FedEx Cup rankings and this round could inspire his way in to the top 125 players list.
“I did not really have anything to lose,” Herron said. “I kind of zoned in a little bit today and just kind of kept rolling and making putts”.
The top 125 players on the FedEx Cup rankings will take to the field at Barclays.
Brendan Steele, who is at 126 in the FedEx Cup rankings, was in big trouble before he rallied and shot four straight birdies to finish at three-under.
The first round leader Carl Pettersson did not have the best of the rounds, as he slipped to T3 after shooting 68 in the second round at Sedgefield.
After the rain, we might further see some low scores as the greens would have softened and players would aim straight at the pin.
