Weather for Cancun in October??? (see details plz)?

He & my husband had this perfect vacation planned out for the end of September into October. (we even payed more to expedite our Travelers Passports) After talking to several people who have visited Cancun in the past, most poeple are saying the we shouldnt go during these months.

We know its hurricane season right now, but will we at least get to enjoy the sun if we go??? I hear that it rains non stop during these months, with no sun, that its windy, and that the beaches arent all re-built after Wilma destroyed them...Are any of these things true?

We would love to go now, because its less expensive to go, and we already took the time off work. If you recently been to Cancun or maybe even live there, can you please give me some advise? Will we regret our trip & loose our money if we go in October? Any comments or advise will be appreciated!

  1. My husband goes to Cancun every October with a group of guys and the weather is beautiful. He has gone 15 years in a row and yes it is hurricane season but he has never been caught in one. I have been to Cancun in October 2 times and I plan to go the first week in October this year and I am  expecting it to be just as beautiful as usual. The temperature usually is very hot and like anywhere that is humid it rains occasionally but then 15 minutes later it is beautiful again. . Go and enjoy yourself I know I will.

  2. 99 out of a hundred days it is nice there. October is a fun time to go and if a hurricane is coming the cruse ship just steers clear of it.

  3. My wife and I always travel in September and October and have been to Cancun/ Mayan Riviera many times during these months. Honestly, there's not that big of a difference between one month and the next, hurricane season or not.

It doesn't rain non stop - it's Cancun not Seattle. When it rains there it rains hard for a short period of time. You'll likely get a fair bit of rain but it may be at 6 in the morning or 4 in the afternoon. Expect a really heavy downpour for 20 minutes or so and then it will be right back to the sunshine. Most of the time it has no effect on your beach vacation. You might wake up in the morning to find puddles on your patio from overnight rain or you may need to hang out undercover of the beach bar for a few minutes in the afternoon. Absolutely nothing that is going to effect your beach vacation in any serious way.

As for all the beaches not being rebuilt, the last time I was there was in December of last year and we went to a public beach and everything looked fine to me. I'm sure if the public beaches are ok then certainly the ones on the resorts would be fine too as I'm sure they would be the bigger priority from an economic stand point.

Most people totally misunderstand hurricanes. The odds of any one area getting hit by a hurricane are actually quite small.
