I would like to know what the weather is like during September. Will the trees start to change colour? Meaning the start of autumn - colouring of the leaves etc.

  1. It depends on what part of Germany you will be in, temperatures will (might) be still pretty warm (at least 61 degrees), but it can also be different. At least the first part of Sept. you can expect warm sunny days, and yes, the trees are starting to change colors from green to this beautiful shades of yellow to brown.

  2. Excellent weather for sightseeing, etc.

  3. Its about the same as in England, except when its cold its a few degrees colder in Germany and when its hot its usually a few degrees hotter in Germany than in England (does that make sense???)  i don't know what going on now though its march and we had snow here yesterday!!!!

  4. The weather in Germany in September is still beautiful, perfect for a visit as it is not as hot/warm in July and August but still warm enough to drive around and have a nice time.

  5. A good time for seeing the leaves turn gold and brown. It will be colder in the north-east, though

  6. Yes, they do start changing color. Birch leaves turn to yellow, oak leaves too, and the most wonderful tree is the chestnut, with leafs having all three colors, green, yellow and red, and, of course, the chestnuts. Children are collecting them, and making chestnut men out of them. (Short German lesson: the chestnut is a "Kastanie", and "chestnut men" are "Kastanienmännchen".)

The more north you get, the earlier autmn sets in. And the more to the countryside you get, you'll see fields full of wheat in September, which is some kind of wonderful.

I had to look that one word up in a dictionary: You will encounter lots of Mähdreschers in the countryside in September, that's harvesters, and they're huge. Don't even TRY to overtake them. By law, they are green, so if you see something big and green, rather step on the brake. (Snow plows are bright-orange, but that's no thing to consider in summer.)

btw, we have a Gerrman word for "Indian summer", that's "Altweibersommer". It refers to old women's grey hair, and the spiders' webs that are common during September and October.

It perfectly does. England has a maritime climate, whereas Germany, especially the east, has a continental one. So we usually have warmer summers (I wouldn't call them hot, for any goodnesses sake) and colder winters, although this winter, there was more snow in Greece than in Germany.

  7. It is much like the New England weather is, Fall with Autumn leaves and starts to get cold in the evenings. Also a great time for festivals.
