I'm going on a mission trip to the highlands area of Guatemala in march of this year. What type of weather will I need to dress for and what type of clothing do you reccommend?

  1. Rainy season starts, look at the chart on the site i posted for you

  2. Year round the temperature hovers in the 70s.  It can get a bit chilly in the evening and at higher altitudes.  I usually wear shorts and a T-shirt and then have a jacket for nights.

  3. Hi there.  I've been to Guatemala before(also for a mission trip!) and it was a great place!  The weather in March will be warm, but in the evenings and especially in the mountains it does get cooler.

Since you will be there for missions, there may be some dress requirements that your organization has-so maybe check with them.

If they don't have specific recommendations/guidelines, I would plan on conservative summer attire for bigger cities.  T-shirts that cover and aren't too tight are the best.  I would bring some pants too, as they can be helpful if you are trekking.  Shorts shouldn't be too short.  And the most useful thing would dressier clothes.  Long skirts, dress/collared shirts and all that stuff is great for churches.  If you go to rural villages you will want to more conservative and covered.  Oh, and tank tops(not spaghetti) are normally OK in larger, more Western areas.

Enjoy Guatemala, eat some good food and God's blessings on your mission there!

  4. I live near Lake Atitlan, in the highlands. I wear jeans and tee shirts and sandals in March. In Guatemala, the climate really depends more on elevation than anything else. It could be hot and sticky in the Peten, and on both coasts near sea level. Higher elevations are always cooler. March generally is too early for the rainy season.
