  1. Layer up. Thats what i do.

Like it was said, one day it could be 90 degrees, and the next its 30.

Boots.... good for the snow. but not so much for everyday. I usually wear long sleeve shirts / sweaters for the winter, as well as bring along a heavy coat and gloves and hat (i get cold very easily, though.) as far as the year goes: heres sorta how it goes: Starting with now.  Summer: so far its been like from 90 - 105-- Very hot... tank tops, shorts, flip flops. Then about september will roll around, and it will be about in the 60's 70's some days a light sweater is nice to have. then about late october or into nov. it gets cold.... thats when you will need that jacket and gloves, that lasts until late Feb. or march....Last year it lightly snowed on thanksgiving... that was exciting. then it snowed again later in Feb. then in march / april, gets warm... back up to the 70;s again. Then late in may early june ... thats when the 90 - 100 degree weather hits.

hope this helps !  Good Luck at SMU!!!

  2. My daughter graduated from SMU:) ... Yes, you may want some warm boots for winter.  It snowed 2 days last year, although it melted by the end of the day when it got into the 50's, but the nights can be in the 20's.  Rainboots and a raincoat might be good too.  I'm just fine with cotton-ramie sweaters, and a warm coat; and some gloves:) ... The shopping here is wonderful though, so you'll be able to get whatever else you need:) ... It will still be warm through October, so bring summer clothes too.... It's a beautiful campus, and I'm sure you'll love it!

  3. In the summer it can be horribly hot and humid (this last week it was in the 100's F (around 40 C) because of the gulf coast moisture that frequently makes it's way up here. In the spring it can be quiet nice with temps in the 70's F - 80's F (20C - 25C) but still quite humid. In the fall it will still be hot until November usually with temperatures usually in the 80's F - 90's F (25 C - 32 C) and in the winter it can get down below 0 F, though it is more likely that it will be around 32 F (0 C) usually a bit higher... We generally have high humidity all year round though the winter is drier than the rest of the year. Since the surface and ground temperatures are usually above freezing in the winter it doesn't generally snow. Though we do get ice and a lot of it.

You can probably get away with having just a Wool Sweater on most winter days. Though long underwear or very thick dense clothing is strongly encouraged because the cold wind will cut through a person like a hundred knives. So I encourage you to bring some winter clothes and jackets, and even boots because we do see snow sometimes, though not often.

And welcome to Texas and the Dallas area.. :D I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

ADD: there is an old adage about the weather around here.. if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and it will change... and it seems to hold true most of the time.

  4. Well, currently it's 107, dry dry heat, but you'll probably get used to it.

Don't bother with boots for the winter, we don't even get real snow here, we get sleet and slush.

Fall is pretty nice weather, but can range from 80 degrees to 50.

All you'll need is a few sweatshirts, if for some reason we get freak weather and it gets actually cold, you can always just layer.

  5. You should bring some sweaters and boots just in case, i do not live in texas but i looked at the weather averages and it is cold, and it shows it's average temps in the winter are around 34-38o F but it doesnt percipitate, so bring boots, but not the thick ones, just some nice boots. GO MUSTANGS!!!

  6. well it changes alot, but right now and for the past days its been very hot, hot, hot 106+

its very cold in the winter but not like chicago cold, spring and fall are the best--april,may,june--end of september, october

  7. Bring wool sweaters.  You might not need them a lot, but if you go out much, there probably will be times that you will need them.  Bring cardigans also; the cold  comes and goes.  Sometimes it's up to 70 in February, and it can get very cold in March.

  8. dallas texas is mild. you will do just fine with a sweater and a light coat. oh yeah, and you may want a rain coat but thats about it. but boots are always nice for anywhere.

  9. Be ready for any type of weather when you're in Dallas. Last year in November 2007 there was one week where we had every type of weather all in a week! It was super hot and humid on Monday, Tuesday it cooled down and we had a breezy and comfortable day, Wednesday we had severe thunderstorms and a few tornado hits in various cities, Thursday it got really cold, Friday we had sleet and a little bit of snow. The weather is so crazy here! I'd bring a jacket/sweater for a cool fall day, but also make sure you have a heavier coat for winter because it can get really cold, too. I use one of those leather sport jackets you get from playing on a sports team at school and I put a regular jacket underneath and I'm good. It also helps a ton if you wear a scarf - it warms right up! Good luck!

  10. Be prepared for anything in Texas. It can be 80 degrees one day & snow the next.  You could probably get by without a heavy coat if you have warm clothes that you can layer.

  11. The temps will be in the 90's through the month of September.  October is sometimes rainy with temps in the high 70's - mid 80's.

In November we may  get our first freeze, but the next day could be in the 60's.  December is about the same as November.  We've had snow on Christmas Day and other years we've had our doors open on Christmas Day.  If we get any snow or sleet it will come in January or February.  We usually get some a couple times each winter, but it's under 2 inches and only lasts 1 day.  By March you can feel spring in the air, and by April the grass is turning green and flowers are beginning to bloom.  In May we usually turn the air conditioning on again.  Then June, July and August the temps will be 100 and over.

People do wear boots quite often and that's small to pack so bring them, but you'll do fine with a light weight coat and layer a shirt & sweater under it. You won't wear a heavy wool coat enough to bother with it.  Sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, boots, gloves and an umbrella is about all you'll need.
