I'm from California and will be going to London and Scotland the end of the month. How is the weather usually in late July early Aug? (I'll mostly be in Scotland) I'm from Cali so don't own too many jackets and that......especially in the summer, all I wear are tanks and shorts...........will I be crazy if that's ALL I take over there?? PLEASE HELP!

  1. Bring a couple of pairs of jeans and a showerproof jacket. It is normally warm in July and august but who knows when the rain will come. I live midwayish between London and Scotland, and today was 26 degrees, then it got really windy, then there was an almighty downpour of rain. Now it is still warm but cloudy. British weather is all part of the fun!

  2. There's often quite a big difference between London and Scotland, because Scotland is 400-600 miles further north.

On the whole, you are more likely to get warm dry weather in London, cooler wetter weather in Scotland. However, even different parts of Scotland can have very different weather - it's not unusual for eastern Scotland to be warm and dry whilst western Scotland is wet. Western Scotland gets more rain than eastern Scotland.

In southern England we've just finished a warm sunny spell when we had temperatures up to the high 20's C (low 80's F) but now it's dropped back to normal, a much nicer low 20's C, (low 70's F)

I would suggest you bring clothes to suit both warm and cool weather - so bring your shorts etc, but also bring jeans and light jacket. Be ready for just about anything, because the weather here is never boring!

Late July/Early August is a long way ahead, too far for reliable forecasts, but you might get some idea if you check the UK monthly outlook :

  3. at the moment it's been windy and cloudy with showers/downpours, except in the south where it's been aparently beautiful.

  4. Late July/early August is normally nice, but not as hot as Cali.

Take a showerproof jacket, trousers, sweater etc as we do get rain and it gets chilly in the evening.

    Have a great holiday.

  5. Scotland will be around 20 - 25 degrees when you're over, but make sure you have a lightweight waterproof as the rain is sooooo unpredictable!!! Enjoy your trip!
