  1. Think about what happens if you hold a teaspoon under a running stream of water - the stream deflects, but the deflection is not steady, you can see quite obvious variations if you watch for even a few seconds.  This happens because there are tiny, really microscopic variations in the pressure and flow of the water out of the tap, but I bet you can't see them because they're too small. So a tiny variation at one point can cause a much much bigger variation along the line.

This is basically why weather is unpredictable - there are so many microscopic variations at the moment we don't have a model sophisticated enough to work out what will happen. Nowadays we can work out many possible outcomes, and so forecast the most likely one, but sometimes we get it wrong , for example the infamous Michael Fish hurricane. There are just too many possible outcomes to successfully predict the weather over long periods of time.

  2. weather can be predictable, but u you'll have to be an expert or a meterologist.

  3. The reason that weather can be unpredictable is that the characteristics of the atmosphere allow for very sudden and frequent changes.

It can be difficult to predict the exact time a storm will arrive. Some forecasters give a time frame only because the public demanded it and it will make them happy. The truth is, in some cases it is impossible to tell exactly when a storm will arrive.

It is true that weather forecasts are not accurate from time to time because the atmosphere is one of the most difficult things to predict. You should understand that conditions in the atmosphere are ALWAYS changing and the only way to keep up with these changes to make accurate forecasts is to have experienced meteorologists on hand as well as very reliable technology such as satellites, Doppler radar and computer models.

If a forecast called for a brief rain storm two days from now, that means that according to computer models (which gather the data from a variety of sources) predicted specific conditions to be in place for that rain storm to arrive at your area at that time. These conditions may include wind speeds and directions high in the atmosphere, location and direction of pockets of moisture, location and direction of low or high pressure systems, etc...

You see, every one of these variables will likely change. If the wind speeds high in the atmosphere happened to increase, that rain storm would arrive tomorrow instead of two days from now. If a high or low pressure system formed in the area, it would steer that rain storm away from you. The fact that most weather forecasts are accurate is very impressive. This is another reason that meteorology is a growing scientific field because there are still many things that meteorologists do not understand about the atmosphere. Who knows, maybe in 200 years, humans will have the capability to control the weather, but that's a whole different story.

  4. Well, in fact, you can predict it, but it doesn't always turn out the way you thought it would. Sometimes meteorologists don't take into account every single factor, and it messes up their forecast. The slightest changes have the largest effects. Even on a microclimotological scale, every factor must be taken into account. Also, another thing to consider is the fact that weather changes over time. Meteorologists can't do anything about that except change their forecasts.

  5. temp. changesquickly and so is weather

  6. climate is what you expect and weather is what you get.
