Live in the Midwest where we get lots of snow. Other than Farmers Almanac, does anyone else make predictions?

  1. My prediction is that we're going to have a similar situation as last time - when the calendar says "winter," it feels too warm for that. Once we get into late January/early February though, I think we're going to get slammed with severe cold in most of the country.

  2. Winter has been canceled this year

  3. I can tell you a couple of old ways people used to predict winter.  I guess you could call them wives tales.

In August count the fogs every morning.  This will tell you how many snows your going to get.  Most of the time its pretty accurate. (or maybe just coincidence :)

When the persimmons ripen, you can cut them in half and they will have a white thing in the center that will be in the shape of either a spoon, fork, or knife.  (its really cool)  Spoon means lots of precipitation in winter, fork means some precipitation, and knife means little.

Of course, these are wives tales that old people used way back then but its fun to do. :)  Otherwise, a farmers almanac is what you want.

  4. Get a Farmer's Almenac
